Increasing the Housing Supply: Increasing Accessory Dwelling Units
This day expands on the prior Deep Dive Day by sharing additional scalable strategies for increasing the supply of housing in ways that are economical and practical. Many of the sessions focus on strategies to support rapidly (and economically) increasing the building of ADUs, but that is not the exclusive focus. This day includes other sessions on zoning, local politics, community care coordination, time exchanges, tool libraries and innovations in financial and ownership models that support this form of “gentle densification” in many neighborhoods.
The sessions will emphasize the value of a multi-faceted strategy that minimizes the obstacles, reduces the cost, and increases the benefits of increasing the different types of ADUs that can create pathways to home ownership, improved ways for seniors to remain in their neighborhoods, and reduce the acquisition of houses by large corporate investors seeking to convert owner-occupied homes to rental properties.
The day will also have strategies for how your community can prepare to win and leverage the funding from the Housing Supply and Affordability Act in order to develop a multi-faceted strategy and policy agenda.
